Anglesea Farm Children COVID relief fund

Anglesea Farm, on the edge of the Matopos, has nearly thirty employees whose children, depending on their age, attend different schools in the area. The preschoolers, however cannot walk as far, (up to ten kilometers) and have been taught by Soneni, who was a teaching assistant until the government tightened their belts.

She approached us for assistance when her little group of 3 swelled to 14 due to the COVID pandemic and the subsequent closure of schools.

We formed a committee, consisting of Jeanne Jackson (a qualified teacher 0 - 9 years) Frankie Kay, who is going to advertise on Facebook and other social media and Margaret Lewis, (formerly a senior school maths teacher) who is going to handle all the finances.

We decided to set up this fundraiser to buy tablets for the children, so they can download reading materials, educational games and follow an online curriculum.

In order to discourage them from spending all day occupied with their devices, we would like funding to buy writing materials, exercise books and art materials as well as standard reading books for the children.

Although not ideal, we have cleared out and spruced up a building close enough to the WiFi to enable the children to access the internet, but large enough to allow them to social distance.

We will encourage the older children to maintain an online presence; hopefully a blog in which they can outline how much of a change your donation is making to their education.

In short, we would like to purchase the following:

14 tablets GBP145.00 (total of 2030GBP)

Exercise writing books (Approx 50GBP)

Writing materials (Approx 50GBP)

Physical reading books (Approx 100GBP)

Art materials (Approx 100GBP)

Sports equipment such as soccer balls (Approx 50GBP)

To buy this, we need a lump sum of 2500GBP initially.

We anticipate data usage of about 50gig per month at a cost of between 50GBP and 150GBP. For the anticipated five months of lockdown until schools are functioning again, we would need between 250GBP and 750GBP

Presently, Soneni is teaching the preschoolers out of the goodness of her heart, but with a larger group, we hope to raise enough money to pay her about 50 pounds per month. This will amount to 125GBP for the five month period.

If we raise enough money for the basics (tablets and data) we would love to get a printer/photocopier/scanner as it can be used after the pandemic is ended to print books and other educational materials.
