Angelique for Animation

Hi all! I'm Angelique.

I have started this campaign on the account that I need some financial help continuing my 2nd and 3rd years of my studies at SAE Institute for a Bachelors Degree in Animation and Motion Design.

A little about me; I was born and raised a South African, I come from a family of 5 siblings, me being the eldest of the lot and I am currently 20 years old. Becoming an animator has been my dream job for years. After meeting like minded people in the 8th grade, I had soon discovered my love for illustrating the stories we told amongst ourselves. So, I took it upon myself to practice my craft.

In the year 2018, I got accepted at SAE Institute. and by the following year I completed my first year of the three and I pride myself on having done well despite the restraints I had and issues I had encountered. I came with the mindset of being there because traditional 2D animation was in the curriculum, but I found working with 3D modeling, even participating in the film process was fascinating too and experiencing the difference in workflow. I have yet to return to finish my degree on the account I was forced to drop out because I could not afford tuition as my father had recently lost his job.

In 5 years, I hope to be working in the animation industry, either as an animator, storyboard artist, character designer or concept artist in a well-known animation studio. As of right now I have yet to see where my strengths lie but I am willing to explore my options till then.

Disney, DreamWorks, Pixar, and Japanese animation has been my driving force in motivating my path. More so Disney specifically, Walt Disney has been my inspiration for a long time. He had many obstacles he had to overcome and push through before Disney became the beloved studio of animation pictures it is today. My best friend also has been a big factor in what I do since we both enjoyed the creative process together and we always rooted for one another and gave advice where advice was due for our respective projects. Interacting with the online art community has also been a big driving force for me, not only was I inspired by other people and their work, but I also felt motivated in a competitive sense to push myself and get better.

My current obstacle is finances and I have struggled with it for an exceptionally long time, my father is currently unemployed as I previously mentioned, and my mother is supporting our family of 7 on a teacher’s salary which is barely enough to provide for the needs of all of us.

Going back to SAE will allow me to benefit from others more experienced than I, advising me on how I can get better firsthand. My dream is to eventually start my own animation studio, and this would be me getting one step closer to achieving said dream.
