Andrew is fundraising for the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Project

Andrew is travelling to Sumatra in June 2017 where he will visit the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Project (SOCP). Within the last decade the population of orangutans has fallen by between 30-50%. They now only live on two islands - Borneo and Sumatra. Their numbers are falling for two main reasons - an illegal pet trade, and habitat loss due to a growth in palm oil plantations, human encroachment and the spread of agriculture, road development, unsustainable logging and mining. SOCP works with orphaned or rescued orangutans that were captured for the pet trade to rehabilitate and release them to safe forest and also to rescue and relocate those whose habitat has been destroyed and therefore are at risk of starvation. They also care for injured or disabled orangutans and work with partners to save the habitat. It costs $3000 to release each orangutan and Andrew would like to take a donation to Sumatra to support this work. Andrew will be fundraising in a variety of ways over the next few months both alone and with his team mates to raise as much as possible to help save this beautiful and unique animal, can you spare a few pounds to help him?
