On Sunday 7th February Andrew Parkes will be flying out to the Greek Island of Samos where Refugee Families are arriving daily. With him he will take a simple rucksack, donated emergency blankets & most importantly the practical skills he has. Over the next 5 days Andrew will build, shift, lift, construct, & help the existing Samos volunteer teams in any way he can.
The #Together100 project wants to send with Andrew funds that can be used directly to aid volunteer work in Samos, whether it is providing warmth, food, tools, medicine or building materials.
This campaign will run for 8 days only, with the simple idea that MANY OF US GIVING JUST A LITTLE will add up to A LOT and allow aid to go to the areas of need right now.

You won't be plucking people from ultimate peril at sea, but you will be lending a hand in the process of helping desperate people in their journey.

The rewarding bit is knowing you are helping fellow people and families on their way having survived a crossing that many don't.

Day 3 in Samos with 'handy-Andy'"Samos is a beautiful Island. As I write I am enjoying the local food after a satisfying day.To give. . . . .
Stranded on the rocks for 3 days & 3 nights before they were found freezing & unwell.
Update posted by Susan Lacey at 12:15 amWe achieved a whole load today culminating in helping some poor people who got stranded on the rocks and we're not found for 3 days. They were freezing, kids were unwell, feet were wet.So DAY 2 started with a trip in the van this morning to buy and transport tools. . . . .
I’m going to drive and buy more wood and complete a drying room for boots and shoes.

Then off on a whirlwind tour of Samos:-* The port where a massive ferry was leaving from.* The cabin where the clothes are handed. . . . .

Update posted by Susan Lacey at 08:29 am"Had a fun night getting here and slept for 1 HR.Met a lovely girl from Brighton that is on her 3rd trip in three months and is relieving Vale (volunteer co-ordinator) so she can go home.Sat on the little plane over from Athens, then rented a car and drove across. . . . .
Because we all know how it feels to have cold feet.

With space to fill in his rucksack, we called the volunteer team in Samos and asked what we could donate that would be of use. Their answer was socks. So, along. . . . .
