Who or What is Anabellum417?

Anabellum417 has been around the Springfield, MO area since 2011, mostly as a hobby business. As the owner, I was also working with a non-profit organazation to get more experience in my field as a doula. I did not spend much time trying to grow my own business but now I'm on my own and it is time to get Anabellum417 off and running!

What does Anabellum417 do?

Anabellum417 is primarily a birth education and doula business. I am a certified birth doula through DONA and my primary goal is to serve women emotionally and physically during the transition of birth. I serve women by providing education and support during prenatal and postpartum visits as well as being with them during the birth of their child. I also create and sell demonstration models to other doulas and birth educators to assist teaching about breastfeeding and childbirth. These sales are managed through my Etsy store.

Is that all?

Research shows women who have a doula are less likely to have a ceserean section, long and difficult labors and over all are more satisfied with their birth experience than those without a doula. Even as recently as this past week the ACOG shared a report documenting the high rate of cesarean sections and one way they suggested to bring the rates down was to have a doula present during birth. Why should I care?

I understand you may not see any reason to help get my business to the next level. I understand you may have made it to the top of your game all on your own. I would like you to think back over your years of growing and becoming what you are today. Did you really get there on your own? Did you have no one help you? Wasn't there someone along the way who made the difference in your life? I am only asking for you to be part of the team who helps me get to where I want to be.

Passion

I wish I could tell each one of you how passionate I am about what I do. I took a long time to find what I wanted to be when I grew up. I was 40 years old, about to become a grandmother. I started learning about this profession when my daughter was pregnant with the M&M's. (My twin grandchildren are also known as the M&M's) As soon as I read what a doula was there was no turning back. I was in touch with the leader of the next training in my area within 24 hours. I was born to do this, to serve women in their time of need. It is part of my make up. When I spend time with a family as they pass from one stage to the next, there is nothing I can imagine doing which is more important. If I could pass this passion on to everyone I meet, I would do it in a heartbeat.

Why so much?

Being a doula is largly done by visiting families in the home and providing them with one-on-one education and support. This involves a lot of driving time and currently takes the family car out of the equation. This is a large part of what I hope to change with this fundraising venture. I am in the market for a very good, very reliable used vehicle to ease the stress this currently causes. Advertising costs are also high and in order to take this from a hobby to full business, advertising is paramount.

What will I get out of it?

Most importanly is the knowledge you have played a part in providing women of this community with a valuable service. Every woman deserves to have someone dedicated to being there who is not going to leave them during the time of birth. A doula provides this. There are also thank you gifts you will recieve depending on the amount donated.
