An Evening With Iman and Friends

An Evening With Iman and Friends has received a proclamation from Mayor Annise Parker and The City of Houston, proclaiming the day of the event to be An Evening With Iman and Friends Day.   An Evening With Iman and Friends is an annual event hosted by myself, Houston recording artist Iman Heartandsoul. This event was started by me "Iman Heartandsoul" after my diagnosis with Chiari in May 2010 resulting in me having to have emergency brain surgery. Since my diagnosis with Chiari, I have become very active in awareness. It is up to the people affected with Chiari and their familes to raise money for research and promote awareness! I have started a non-profit organization called Zipperhead Hearts for Chiari. Each year my non-profit organization Zipperhead Hearts for Chiari host the annual event: An Evening With Iman and Friends. This event consist of live entertainment, comedy, music, and poetry as well as recognizing local Chiari patients who have overcome huge obstacles and challenges (especially children) in fighting to survive this disease. The money that I raise from this event is used to help individual Chiarians in their day-to-day life with finances, medical expenses, because many are unable to make ends meet due to this debilatating disease as well as promoting Chiari Awareness.   Each year my husband and myself use our own personal monies to host this event however, this year we are facing personal challenges because my husband fell through a nine foot ceiling and has been off work since November 2013. There are things that we need to pay for to host this event and make this a magical night for the Chiari patients and honorees such as Photograper ($300), Videographer ($800), Band ($1300), Food ($1000), Venue ($1500), Tables, Chairs, Decorations ($1000), Candy Buffett ($500), Awards and Trophies for Chiari Honorees ($500). My husband and even through the challenges and obstacles that we are facing with our own personal finances, we are trying to cover as much of this as we can on our own with the money I make from my job. Right now I have just applied for 501C3 recognition which cost me $400.00 so I can solicit donations or sponors until I receive the tax - exemption from the IRS.   I don't want to ask for too much money for my goal so therefore, I am only asking for $1000.00 and I am hoping that someone or somebody will be kind enough to donate to this worth cause. Your help is needed and will be greatly appreciated.   Chiari is a rare and sometimes deadly neurological disorder that affects less than 200,000 to 2 million people in the United States.It is a disease that has crippled, paralyzed, debilitated, and even killed. It is A rare birth defect at the base of the skull, the skull becomes too small for the brain, the brain is forced down into the spinal canal which leads to compression of the brain stem and spinal cord, and blockage in the flow of spinal fluid. to the brain and body. Very little federal funds have been directed towards research for Chiari.
