Campaign Story
Hello Kind People.
I'm Emma Hayes. I'm 24, I'm an artist/graphic designer/photographer based in sunny Nelson.
I have started this fundraiser with a lot of courage, Its not a nice feeling to ask people for financial help, there's a bit of stigma around not being able to "pay your way" in this world, especially when you fit the bill of a starving artist.
I have had some set backs in life regarding my mental health, I have had many visits to hospital since I was 19. This has left me to be dependent on the benefit for a while, and sometimes to be honest, struggling through life.
I have been a creative person since I can remember, when I was a child, my dream job was either a jewellery designer, shoe designer, children's book writer/illustrator and lastly an artist. The artist one stuck with me.
As I got older I realised that being a graphic designer was the thing that would pay the bills, its something I really enjoy, but I haven't quite made it as one, I'm working on setting up a business for design, but that is currently in the making.
I have two diplomas, one in graphic design, and one in visual arts. (from Yoobee and NMIT)
My soul passion however, is art. Its a meditation for me, it sets me free and it inspires me. I have found a love for digital art, the convenience and the time-laps recordings of the work is the cherry on top.
I have used a desktop computer for this in the past. The dilemma is my computer has gotten old, it no longer wants to do its duty. The computer will crash and freeze once my work has exceeded a certain amount of layers. I have had people try to fix this for me, but its a no go.
So I have a dream. That dream is to get a hold of the brand spanking new Ipad Pro. This is a technology where I can draw strait onto the screen, it has great reviews in the digital art community, and I have seen some of my friends make great work from it.
This will be a very beneficial item for when my business is set up also, as I can take it to clients and draw drafts in meetings.
The Ipad with all of the extras such as a 1TB storage, insurance (apple care) covers, keyboard, apple pencil and cords; rounds up to a nice $4,292.95. This is something that In my current situation is not reachable for me.
Why have I rounded it up to $5,000? I am going to offer top donators a hand made painting from me, and I will need materials for this.
Donations of $800 plus, will get a custom made painting in a recent style I have been experimenting with (Pictured).
The person who has made the donation (of at least $800) can pick a bird and the colours that they would like to be featured, and it can be yours to treasure forever.
I will need a few weeks to produce this painting, so there will be an unspecified wait for the artwork. (As there may be more than one painting for me to produce) But rest assured, I stick to my word and you will receive it. Regardless if I reach my fundraising goal.
The painting pictured was done on a 40cm round canvas, I can not guarantee it will be on the same canvas shape due to canvas availability (round canvases are very popular), but it will be of similar size, (or smaller if preferred, no larger).
I want to thank everyone for your support and for listening to my story. I hope we can achieve this together. To the future! And to hopefully many artworks to come.
Thank you,
Emma Hayes
