Welcome! Thank you for visiting my Go Get Funding site. I greatly appreciate your interest in learning more about my philanthropic work! I am very excited to tell you that I will be immersing myself in saving the ocean by taking part in the International Volunteer HQ Marine Conservation program! Keep on reading to find out why you received this, why this is exciting, and details about the program.
Why are you receiving this?
If you are receiving this, then you are someone I want to share my experience with. You are someone who has expressed a desire to give back to the world. You are a fellow water lover, scuba diver, snorkeler, surfer, boogie border, or bodysurfer. You care about the ocean and want to provide future generations with beautiful and safe water. You are someone that others think is generous. You are someone that I value as a human being.
Why am I excited to do this?
My desire to do more volunteering has tugged at my heart for several years now. I have always believed there is something bigger and better than me out in the world. It's funny to say that as it is such an obvious statement, however, the daily grind can blind me. I tend to miss so much natural beauty around me because I am busy, not in the mood, or frankly too self-absorbed to notice the bigger picture. It's only when I experience an intense sadness or tragedy that I take the time to open my eyes wide enough to reflect on my role in this universe.
For those who don't know, I lost my baby in September. He was an adorable 10 and a half-year-old French Bulldog with the stubbornness of a 2-year-old, the fear of an 18-year-old daredevil, and the confidence of a supermodel. He was my everything. Three weeks after his 10th birthday, he experienced a seizure and was soon diagnosed with a brain tumor. I was in shock and going through the beginning stages of grief. Throughout his journey, Aix was a trooper. He took his medicine like a champ and dealt with car rides to the vet every two weeks. He even showed glimpses of comfort and compassion for me when he was at his worst. He was what he has always been, my sweet baby boy.
It's been three months since he passed and I miss him like hell. Losing my baby has definitely been the most profound loss that I have ever experienced. Weirdly, I am grateful for that. I am happy that I was able to love someone as much as I loved Aix (and still do). An unconditional love that only a parent can give their child. Aix's struggle started to nudge my eyes open to the world around me. I started reflecting more on happiness and how I want and can make an impact on something. I contemplated the ways I can give back. I searched for opportunities that excite me and make me passionate about the work I intend to do.
When I found IVHQ's Marine Conservation program in Jamaica, I knew it was the right volunteer opportunity for me. It allows me to make what I feel is a meaningful impact. AND it requires me to travel to a destination that I have always wanted to see, Jamaica.
My research led me to one of the best programs offered in Jamaica to make a significant impact on its community and marine life. During this 4-week program, I will focus on coral restoration and marine awareness. The coral reef in Jamaica has suffered a great deal due to poor choices from the community, This program contributes to the restoration of the reef and education for the locals.
It was important to me that not only did I volunteer to do something that inspired me but that I do it with a legit company. International Volunteer HQ is a certified B Corporation, which means it's a company that uses business as a force for good around the world. IVHQ partners with local teams, these teams oversee volunteer efforts on the ground. This approach means locals set the volunteering agenda, which is essential because they are in the best position to know where volunteers are needed.
