On May 27th I received the worse news of my life. My youngest daughter had been murdered. The struggles became real. Amber's children were with people they barely knew. (Amber's new in-laws) Amber married in March 2019. I had her children. I knew those people could not love my grandchildren as I can. My husband and I hired a Colorado Springs lawyer to help us get our grandchildren home to Nebraska.
It turns out that my youngest daughter was involved in things I could not dream of her being involved in. She is my daughter, and I love her. I do not condone, nor did I know what she was involved in. This fundraising venture is not about Amber. This is about her children. Amber's children should not suffer for the actions of their mother. Nor should Amber's parents suffer for her actions.
Amber married a gang member of the Sereno. He and his family may have ties to the Mexican Cartel. We also believe that Amber did not know this until it was too late for her. We believe this because a week before she was murdered; she told her husband she wanted a divorce. These discoveries never saw the light of day in a trial because the Pueblo DA’s office offered Amber’s murderer a plea deal. Confess and you don’t have to go to trial. The murderer confessed and is doing 42 years for shooting Amber. That is not all he did.
After Amber died, I had to have answers. So, I ordered her autopsy report along with the image cd from the New Mexico coroner's office. I didn’t want to see it, but I had to see what happened to my youngest daughter. While waiting for the report and image CD, my husband and I went through 6 months, almost 7 months of court proceedings, trying to get our grandchildren away from Amber’s in-laws in Colorado. A Pueblo, Colorado Judge granted us emergency custody of our grandchildren on June 23rd, 2021. Emergency custody is not custody. We still had months ahead of us, and because Amber’s only son is part Native American, the BIA had to get involved. Over 20 thousand dollars later, we received custody of our grandchildren.
When we picked up our grandchildren from Pueblo with the help of the Pueblo Police department, only two were brought to us at the police station. The investigators asked us if we wanted our eldest granddaughter to come home. We told them if she wanted to come home; she was welcome to come home. They told her we didn’t want her, and that she could fend for herself. When the police only showed up with two of Amber’s children, my heart sank. I asked them about my eldest granddaughter, and they told me she wanted nothing to do with me. It was all a lie.
What went on was this: When the police showed up to get the children from Amber’s in-laws, Amber’s eldest got her things. She was excited about going home with her siblings. When she started down the stairs with her some of her things, she was told she could not go, her grandparents didn’t want her. Amber’s eldest was only 18 at the time and had just lost her mother. I can’t imagine how the police made her feel that day. They must have thought that our family would not make it through this traumatic event in our life. We made it, and Amber’s eldest is living at home with us. She knows the police lied to her. She was scared that we didn’t want her, but that fear was because the police and Amber’s in-laws wanted her to feel that way. They wanted to keep our family apart, and since the eldest had lived with her mother the longest, she knew more.
The eldest had to be kept away from us until after the trial. The trial ultimately never happened, thanks to the DA’s plea deal. Also, thanks to the Pueblo Police department's devious bull crap, Amber's eldest daughter graduated with a 4.0-grade average despite all she had to go through to get there. She asked me if she could come home when she finished school. I told her then that I never said she couldn't come home.
Our family heals a little more every day. We made discoveries about Amber's case along the way. Those discoveries will be in Amber's book, The Other Side, which will be released on the 2nd anniversary of her death. May 21st. My husband and I would appreciate your help with any amount you can afford. Your donations help Amber's eldest go to college. Amber's only son is into sports. Can you help him with a donation to continue his love of sports? Amber's youngest daughter has bouts of anger and needs counseling. Can you help us pay for her counseling? Without her counseling, she destroys our home by digging holes in the wall. I have fixed her walls twice already. The counselor she gets along with doesn't accept our insurance.
Please understand none of us wanted any of this.

little did we know when little Lexi was graduating preschool, that we would be helping her past her high school graduation. Lexi graduated with a 4.0 GPA. She did this despite the death of her mother. Lexi was born in England to American parents. Grandpa and I traveled to London. . . . .

The first thing we are working on is getting Alexia ready for college. She doesn't have a car and she needs tuition. Contrary to the beliefs of some, Alexia is not eligible for free college because she lost her parents. Alexia lost her dad when she was quite young. She
