Amazing Gracie

Gracie was born on March 7, 2018 with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) and congenital heart defect and has lived her entire 8 month life in the NICU at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. Gracie was placed on ECMO life support for 9 days shortly after her birth, has endured 4 major surgical repairs on her diaphragm and open heart surgery, numerous smaller surgical procedures, and continues to battle pulmonary hypertension. She is currently healing and recovering from her most recent CDH repair surgery on 11.9.18.

Gracie is a feisty, brave fireball whose adorably sweet and curious personality has won the hearts of her family, nurses, doctors, therapists, NICU staff, and a massive community of supporters across the country and around the world. Gracie’s vibrant zest for life is an inspiration to us all, and we are so grateful to have her.

The care Gracie has received at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis has been exceptional. Gracie’s Guardian Angel nurses, doctors, and surgeons have saved her life multiple times. Despite the extraordinary challenges Gracie has faced and overcome, she is doing remarkably well developmentally. We feel strongly that Gracie’s progress is attributed to many factors including outstanding medical care, exceptional nursing, dedicated occupational and physical therapists, heartwarming music therapy, uplifting support from child life for Gracie and her big sister Josie, and spiritual care from chaplains for our entire family.

We created Amazing Gracie’s fundraiser to support some of the many people and departments who have supported Gracie and our family over the last 8 months. We will never be able to adequately begin to thank the team at Children’s for all they have done for Gracie, Josie, and our entire family, but we hope to honor Gracie’s strength and bravery and the dedication of her care providers.
