One day Amanda woke up with numbness on her whole left side of her body. A few days later, her speech was beginning to be slurred. Having no health insurance, she hesisitated going to the doctor due to medical expenses. But it got so bad her family convinced her she needed to go. After an ER visit, blood work, EKG, a CT scan, an MRI, and multiple visits to a neurologist, her medical expenses are already through the roof. Turns out she has a very large brain lesion which is impairing her left side of her body, including numerous other smaller lesions that she has apparently had for years but never really had any symptoms.

Getting a medical diagnosis of MS is devasting enough at age of 29, especially how this disease disables the person so they can not function or work. Amanda had no medical insurance to help her as she had to start immediate treatment to help with her MS symptoms. The emergency room, the MRI's, other medical testing, and the specialists will devastate her and her family financially. She has signed up for Healthcare.gov on January 1st. She will get some help from Insurance, as long as Congress doesn't change it. Her treatment starts this week with steroidal infusions for 5 days to help with her symptoms so she can function. After the treatments, she will have to be put on a medication that she has to take for the rest of her life that will be very expensive. It will be an ongoing struggle for her as there is no real cure for MS, and the cost of the monthly premiums and deductibles is very high for those of us who have to get our own medical insurance through Healthcare.gov

The costs for her treatment is very high as you can imagine, and she and her family face a long road ahead. As her co-workers in a small office we want to help as much as we can. Her illness came on very severely and is likely to get worse. Please help with any donation that you can so she can get the treatment she needs
