Hi my name is Alish and I am heading to the Philippines in November with the "Alternative to Schoolies" program (A2S's)
The program started in 2010 and this will be the 4th year it has ran
Past groups have put in stormwater drainage systems, constructed and fitted out a new library and helped with last years terrible typhoon
This year the group will be building a total of 9 new classrooms for the same school as past groups, in the village community of Indangan, it is on the outskirts of Davao city
Also as a group we decided to give up our 3 days of free time in Manilla (before flying home to Australia) to travel to Cebu instead, to help the people still effected by 2013 typhoon. Were people are still living in tents!
We are already fundraising for the building materials for the rooms, this money I am asking for is to help send me there. As each student is paying their own way
I feel a little weird asking for money, but as my mum said, some people may never get the oportunity to do what I'm about to do and are happy to help out someone that can, with a donation
*Who am I?
I am Alish, a Year 12 student, part time worker, not quite 18
I am compassionate. I have been involved with wildlife since I was 7, helping out with my parents wildlife shelter, with rescue and rehabilitation. (I'm pretty good at catching flying koalas, funny story!)
I am a fighter. I love muay thai (some people call it kick boxing) and I even trained and fought in Thailand last year (I also won too!)
I am a dancer. The dance group I am with, empowers women and gives back to community
And I want to travel and experince what life gives us, the good and the bad
*What is schoolies? It's Australia's version of spring break in America
*What is A2S's? A better use of my time and money than schoolies
