The arts are facing a devastating impact from the Coronavirus. Music and the arts are a positive force for our community in these turbulent times. Please consider a donation to support this great industry.
Support us to continue supporting musicians and bringing you great concerts!
ALTENBURG ARTS is a premier presenter of world-class, high-quality classical music productions and projects in Singapore and the region. In our inaugural season in 2019/20, we presented pianists Martha Argerich, Yevgeny Sudbin and Kun-Woo Paik, baritone Zhou Zhengzhong, violinist Yao Jue and the Hong Kong String Orchestra.
Altenburg Arts was founded with a mission to:
- engage, inspire, educate and entertain communities through the arts, particularly classical music
- enliven the artistic and cultural calendar of Singapore
- contribute to high-quality local and international classical music programming in Singapore
Since the pandemic, we have had to cancel concerts by soprano Sumi Jo (twice!), pianists Simon Trpčeski, Elisabeth Leonskaja, Dang Thai Son and Zoltán Fejérvari, violinist Daishin Kashimoto and cellist Chen Yibai and we are facing further possible cancellation of future concerts.
We have no certainty when concert halls will start to operate under more normal circumstances, and what sort of concert activity with an audience, and whether travel by international artists into Singapore, would be possible. At this point, we can only seat 250 people in any concert facility, even though the Esplanade Concert Hall's capacity is in excess of 1,600 and the Victoria Concert Hall's is 670.
For us and for the artists, venues and production staff we work with, this means drastically reduced income for an indefinite period of time. With the existing cancellations, we have lost on potential revenue of almost $300,000. Further cancellations in our current season will raise this amount to almost $400,000. This is a loss that no alternative sources of potential revenue will ever come even slightly close to covering.
While we are making plans for 2021 and beyond, we still have no assurance concert activity can resume in a normal way.
We would be very grateful for your support, big or small, to help us tide through these difficult times. Every contribution will help ensure we get through this crisis with strength to continue our work of bringing you the finest in classical music on the stage.
