Hi everyone,

Welcome to my page. My name is William. I've visited the Palestinian territories many times to do some volunteer work. Last year I came a cross a small school in the refugee camp of Jenin in the West Bank. It's called the ALTafawk center. A young girl, who lives in the camp, created this school in 2010 to give English classes to some of the children of the camp. Most of them come from very poor families, who can't afford a proper education for them. Besides English, she teaches them to respect the equality between men and women. Most of the girls in the camp are destined to marry and become a good housewife. At the center they are taught that they can be more. Also the center tries to provide the students a healthy meal a day. Since last year a kindergarten was opened at the center. To take care of the young ones and to help them get a proper development.

The latest decision of the American president to cut off any financial aid to the UN, with regard to the Palestinian issue, made the situation in the camp even more difficult. Many UN schools are closed down, leaving a million of children without education and no safe place to go. At the refugee camp of Jenin alone, there are three UN schools. Now the demand to attend the classes at the ALTafawk center has increased dramatically. But due to lack of financial resources and volunteers, the center is forced to refuse children.

Therefore I created this campaign to ask you to help the center in their mission to help the children of the refugee camp of Jenin to get a chance to a proper education, a healthy meal and hope that they can achieve a better life outside of the camp.

Thank you!

  • I have been to a youth centre in Bethlehem. I do not know Jenin but I know a lot about problems facing Palestinians living under a brutal occupation, so thank you for helping them. It must be hard for you and the local people to remain steadfast and to keep hold of hope for the future. We have to believe in freedom for Palestine however bleak it looks. Keep on holding on. It is always better to ligfht a candle than to curse the darkness.
