It was back in that cold wet sad morning in February, that the gates of hell opened and exposed the conditions in which Elenis Christelou's shelter kept the dogs for 30 years or so. All the dogs on death row, all the dogs had one way out of there and that was death, from illness that slowly killed them. Serious fighting between un- sterilized dogs, and hunger, there was never enough food the strongest ate, the weaker ones just starved.

We were responsible for telling the world about it.

We were the ones that have been there, in body, heart and soul for all these months.

ALMYROS, Greece, a name, a place unknow to many of us, which is now ringing clear in our ears as the Sunday morning church bells, a sound which speaks of faith, good will, charity and life.

The help which came to these dogs was over whelming.

Friends from abroad rallied to help the suffering dogs shown in the photos that were taken. Life saving food, enough for all so that no dog was left hungry.

Blood tests for each and every dog. Erlichiosis, Leishmania and Heart worm. All were found positive with Erlichiosis, and Babesia, many with Heart worm and some with Leishmania, All cruel, all deadly.

Doxytab to treat Erlichiosis for 35 days was given to all the dogs, covering also the initial treatment for Heart worm. Imizol injections to treat Babesia were also done to each dog, a difficult procedure by a vet.

Advocate to treat Heart worm and effitix to protect them from the pests which had spread these illnesses were provided and administered monthly.

Many cases needed urgent vet treatment at the clinic, something which was never done before, they were just left to die.

Panda for one was a step away from death, this beautiful girl would not have lasted another week.

We undertook all this, it all fell on our shoulders, not knowing if we could see it through, all the treatments and all the care the dogs needed . But we had strong weapon in our hands, the financial help which came from friends. Friends who trusted us to make the difference, to each and every dog in the shelter, turning things around and from suffering, hungry ill dogs, to see at last smiling faces, and we are proud to say we have done it.

How many hours we have put in, during these months we do not know, we lost any sense of time, any sense of family, the dogs became our daily life, our goal we had to see this through, we had to give life where death was and again we have done it.

There have been so many posts, covering all this every step of the way. Many dogs have been adopted so far, and are living the life they were promised to them from birth, in a caring loving home.

But to carry on till the last dog leaves this place and there are only empty cages turning our backs to the shelter for the last time, we once again ask for your help to achieve this. There are still 80 dogs left in the shelter, We are in great need, for even the basic requirements

* Food

* Advocate to carry on treating the ones with Heart worm,

*Effitix spot on to protect them from mosquitoes, sand flies, fleas and ticks.

* Blood test them once there is an adoption, to see where they stand clinically

* Funds to be able to take a dog to the clinic in Volos, for ear infections and any other case that may arise, such as the urgent case of Lila who tore her chest from a piece of metal and many more.

Socializing the dogs at this stage is very important, we do take home some of them, but foster homes are very important in socializing the dogs in a home inviroment, for which we have to pay for every dog.

All these require funds which we can't cover on our own.

That is why we need your help

The shelter is closing down in June 2022 and the remaining dogs will be released to the unforgiving streets.

They can't survive, they don't know how to.

We need to find homes for every single one of them if possible.

Help us to carry on.
