Allan’s Anti-Rhino Poaching Project

South Africa is being hit by the worst wave of rhino poaching ever.  And besides being totally unprepared, the SA government doesn't have the manpower, compassion nor finances to stop these cruel, greedy & heartless poachers streaming in from 6 different advantage points. 13 rhino were killed across the whole of S. Africa in 2007 & a staggering 668 in 2012, but nothing prepared us for the barbaric onslaught of 1,004 rhino being hacked to death in 2013! My name is Allan Bird, a pensioner & I am the sole cameraman/postproduction editor of a very small home based ‘Raine Studios.   And I would greatly appreciate you reading the following facts, then make your decision . . on behalf of your grandchildren. The video link I placed on this page is a very honest attempt to educate & alert young & old of the horrific crimes against God’s beautiful creatures on a daily basis.  Both the music & lyrics were written by Rozanne Visagie & she sings a duet with her talented daughter Shanna in the music video. It was filmed on location at the Big Five Game Reserve Fairy Glen, some 117 kms from Cape Town & the owner Pieter de Jaeger graciously allowed us to film within 20 feet of the two rhino Lady & Higgins.  These are the two rhino who had their horns hacked from their faces only 8 months prior to our filming.  And the greatest tragedy is – Higgins will remain 80% blind from that brutal attack for the rest of his life. Only weeks after I filmed this classic music video, my bedroom studio was broken into & my 5 year old (second hand) Sony camcorder was stolen.  Making it totally impossible for any unemployed pensioner (in Cape Town) to ever purchase a brand new camcorder to further his contribution towards catching these blood thirsty, greedy poachers. For the record – S. African pensioner’s only receive US$104.00 per month AND we are supposed to rent a small flat AND buy a month’s groceries with that.  Hence this plea to raise funds for a Sony camcorder. In 2014 the demand for rhino horn has sky rocketed, so that just a mere kilogramme of rhino horn is NOW worth more than the same weight in gold or cocaine. That’s how bad it really is over here.  And my contribution is – I will continue filming & producing many future Game Wardens on their property & not charge them a single cent at all & place them on YouTube for the world to see.
