ALL they need is EDUCATION for a better TOMORROW

The context

Cameroon is an official bilingual country( French and English) where the percentage of children not going to school or leaving school prematurely is extremely high. Because many parents have poor education background and low incomes, they cannot buy their children basic school material such as school uniform, books, and school bag and support their children in their learning by providing additional support to those preparing exams for instance. As a result, children drop out before the end of primary education and many of them are exposed to failure. In addition, children upbringing rest mostly upon the shoulders of the mothers who need to work hard to support their family financially. This situation makes them to spend long hours away form their home in order to perform their farming or small economic activities (buying and selling goods), which makes the well-being of the overall family quite uncertain...

The roots of the problem are the economic situation of the parents. because of this, most parents do not see the real value and the outcomes of education for the future of their children and support them in their learning. As a result, many children, especially girls do not go to school, and even if they do, many of them leave it without completing the primary school and end up selling at the local market, being housemaids with a poor payment or marry earlier. Children also lack support after class, especially for those preparing exams.Precisely, children do not have a educational centres where they can study and do their homework properly under the supervision of educators trained for that purpose. Consequently, they are exposed to failure and drop out. So therefore, children in this context NEED SUPPORT to excel in their education.

I believe that education is the key that unlocks many opportunities in life. In addition, regarding the role of women in the society, an educated mother is the foundation for the well-being of her family and children. She is able to make good educational choices for her children, support them in their learning process and guide them on the paths of life. As a single mum raising my three children alone, I am sure that I would have had many difficulties in doing so if I were not educated and have a job. This project goes beyond professional experience and is deeply embedded in my personal experience. Since no one knows what the future holds, I believe that if young girls who will become women tomorrow are intellectually equipped, they can better stand in the future no matter what life brings. They can influence their environment, raise awareness on social issues, bring social change in their communities, and reduce social inequalities. However, for this to happen, we need to start earlier if we want to help them to expand their full potential. That is what Mummy and kids stand for. So join us in this vision and let us make it possible together.

Why implicating children NOW?

Simply because I see that my children are lucky to be born in Europe and grow up in a rich economic context compared to me and to children who live in Cameroon. They have a good quality education, good toys, well equipped playground and other learning infrastructures, access to technology in their early age and they have almost what they want .But other children do not have the same opportunity. As a Christian mother, I think it is vital to show them how to share what they have, how to help others, how to give, how to care for others and love them, how to give his quality time to others and how to accommodate in various contexts. I believe that by implicating them at their early stage of life, they will value more what they have and perhaps perpetuate this Family Project when they become adults.

Here’s what we’re doing about it

Because I am originally from Cameroon I saw how my mum used to struggle to bring us up. So in order to support parents in their children's education and learning, my children and I are determined to meet the needs of some of them who need help by:

1. 1. Awarding scholarship to primary school students
   2. Establishing students support groups for after-school coaching
   3. Providing additional basic material to schools so that they can directly give some to every child in need during the school year.

• 6000 euros will be used to award scholarship to students
• 2000 euros will be used for the payment of educators supporting children in their homework for a full school year
• 2000 euros will be used to buy basic school material for schools
