Campaign Story
Alexa Bauer, a performer and popular MC, had a very serious motor bike accident and broke her neck. By a miracle, she survived (most, quite honestly, would not) Alexa survived a major reconstructive operation to her neck, then spent 1 month in hospital in Thailand for intensive physio. Partly paralysed, Alexa needs support for her medical care, and specialised therapy for enhancement of her mobility, and for her rehabilitation. Alexa is making progress, through her own efforts - she is known for her amazingly strong will! - she is now back in Bali, staying at a home donated by a friend for 3 or more months - - doing 3 'boot camp' physio sessions a week. Alexa's walking has improved though is still slow, she can ride as a passenger on a bike but not ride a bike, so getting around is tricky and slow. Some slight continued slow incremental improvement is seen in her arm with intense physio efforts, but her arm is worn in a sling and is still not in use. We hope to see Alexa performing spoken word and hosting open mike nights again - she is a great MC, host and performer and creates a lot of opportunity for others to perform also - though it looks like a long road to recovery - and as Alexa has no medical insurance, she continues to urgently needs your help and support through donations to help cover the mounting costs of all the care she so needs, and is receiving, and for her ongoing convalescence to help her back on her (hopefully performing!) feet! Thank-you sooo much for your support - every donation counts and is special and has a direct impact on Alexa's recovery and her ability to hopefully regain full mobility and health - and Alexa is very touched by your help, and is very grateful to you!
Alexa has many friends - in the image above you see Alexa with the special neck brace we had to air-lift in, with Sarita, a close friend, Rosie, our fab Kenyan nurse, and that handsome guy is Evan, another friend. This is taken shortly before we achieved Alexa's med evac to Bangkok Thailand, where she received care for her injuries. You'll see more pics of that time and the amazing support team formed by her friends, if you scroll right from the main pic above. Thanks again for your support - it all counts and really makes a difference to Alexa's positive outcome and ability to continue her normal life as a performer and an active member of the community. Thank-you so much for caring, sharing, and for donating!

Alexa's progress, Sat 23 April
Update posted by Jelila at 03:27 pmAlexa has been working hard on her recovery, doing 2 physio sessions a day ('a boot camp!' she says...) and is using a new laser machine for deep nerve stimulation. Here's her progress, in her own words: 'AWESOME day walked unassisted around the entire 6th floor twice, shook Nong's hand. . . . .
