What is AKS Festival?

AKS Film, Art & Dialogue Festival is a global human right s initiative designed to facilitate an already existing socio-political and cultural dialogue. The organization aims to promote the visibility and empowerment of transgender, sexual minorities, racial minorities and other marginalized communities. AKS Film, Art & Dialogue Festival screens filma accompanied by discussions and debates, organize educational workshops, art exhibitions and performing arts events that promote awareness and dialogue about issues impacting marginalized groups. AKS engages its audience in a way that challenges them to empathize and demand social justice for minorities and marginalized communities.

AKS is a non-profit and a politically independent organization founded by a team of Danish and Pakistani activists. All the team members contribute with their unique expertise in the areas of cinema, arts, and socio-political activism. The organization prefers to work on the grassroots level and encourage local community members, non-profit organisations to contribute as much as possible in any way they see fit. AKS festival aims to promote individual artists around the world to showcase their work through film programs, workshops, art exhibitions and performance events. We also work to create a forum for courageous individuals to share their stories and empower audiences with the knowledge that personal commitment can make a difference.

We need your support for...

We need EUR5000 for the third edition of our festival in Pakistan, which will take place between 2nd - 20th April 2016 in three major cities of Pakistan.

Our mission and goals for the third edition of the festival are:

  • To Organise festival in Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad with a few single screenings in the neighbouring cities/towns
  • To encourage and engage our dialogue through films and arts to create visibility and empowering transgender and sexual minorities in the region
  • To host International cinema and artists in Pakistan
  • To include as many as possible community members in the festival
  • To provide SAFESPACES with full accessibility
  • To provide transport, food for the audiences

Your donations will help us organise the third edition of our festival and the money will be used for venues (safe space with proper accessibility for community members), Tech support, hosting international guests, translations and food and transport, subtitling, printings, rentals etc.

The festival aims to bring change into a society by creating a dialogue and building a bridge between majority population and neglected and supressed minorities by engaging its audience through films, workshops and performance art events in a way that it challenges audiences to empathize and demand justice for such minorities in Pakistan

The team behind this project have a 3 years of experience and engagement of working for this cause. In 2014, the first edition of the festival was held successfully in Pakistan with participation of more than 500 audiences and last year the festival was hosted in Copenhagen in cooperation with CPH Pride.


The festival hosted international guests and activists in Copenhagen to extend debates the human rights debate of LGBTIQ in Global south, queer, trans, intersex people of color (QTIPoC), Brown feminism and many other important issues through the medium of films and arts.
