AKO BAKWIT is an organized group which aims to protect the rights and welfare of the Internally Displaced Persons or locally known as "Bakwit" in the Philippines.
Since the imposition of lockdown in the country, our group launched an initiative in bringing temporary relief to those who are residing in the National Capital Region, and Region 4A or CALABARZON area.
As part of Ako Bakwit's continuing efforts, we were able to
✔ Distribute 4,263 grocery and care packs;
✔Provide 1,600 milk to children and elderly;
✔ Share 1,780 hot meals to those who are working in the front-lines such as volunteer tanod, security guards and Muslim bakwit who did not relief halal food packs; and
✔Feed 2,300 individuals from our community feeding program.
To add up, it was also able to source out Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) from organizations like OVP - Angat Buhay, and TOWNS Foundation intended for some hospitals in the poorest provinces of the country such as Sulu and Lanao del Sur.
As we are transitioning into the new normal, we have adopted 300 bakwit or IDP families and help them slowly recover for 2 months. These families came from Lanao del Sur, who are displaced because of Marawi Siege in 2017; and were not able to go back to their homes because rehabilitation is not yet completed.
Most of the displaced families sell goods on the streets, mostly in Quaipo, Manila and Baclaran, Pasay City.
We are appealing and knocking on your generous hearts for financial assistance in order for us to help them have a sustainable livelihood, and thus securing their future.
They have already been displaced during the siege, and we don't want them to be displaced again because of this pandemic.
