This scholarship fund will cover the FULL cost of the standardized test (SAT) for undergraduate admission into a college in the United States for Barbadian Volleyball players. My Name is Akeisha M.T Belgrave. I am a Barbadian native currently living in the United States. I obtained a full Volleyball scholarship to Norfolk State University (NSU) in 2004, where I graduated with honors with a Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering. I later went on to pursue my PhD in Biomedical Science, with an emphasis in Quantitative Cell Biology. I am currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at Princeton University in the Integrative Genomics Department. I started playing volleyball for Christ Church Foundation School under the coaching of Mr. Fernando Skeete. After a few years I was given the opportunity to play for the Barbados National Junior Team and train with the senior team. As a student-Athlete I not only had to push for the team and do my part on court but also had to make sure I was stable academically (i.e. MEAC Scholar Athlete). I strongly believe the opportunity I got, with a full scholarship and being able to complete my studies has been really beneficial to who I am today. In support of the Barbadian Volleyball players both at the high school and club level, I have established The Akeisha M.T Belgrave SAT Scholarship Fund. In order to continue the effort of helping Barbadian volleyball players excel both on the volleyball court and academically. My intention is to be able to provide them with the opportunity to become leaders in the Barbadian Volleyball community. This scholarship fund will provide scholarships that will ONLY cover the FULL cost of the standardized test for college admissions in the United States (SAT) so that they can have the option to receive volleyball scholarships in the United States. My aim is to provide at least two SAT scholarships per year. Michelle Obama once said "...when you’ve worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity…you do not slam it shut behind you…you reach back, and you give other folks the same chances that helped you succeed..." This is exactly what I want to accomplish with these scholarship, opening a door of infinite opportunities. I am confident that with your support, we will afford Barbadian volleyball players the opportunity that they desperately need. I’m striving to give back to the upcoming Barbados Volleyball program with the hope that when we work together as a team, we all can become successful and paint a better future for our youth. I see this as my way as "paying it forward". Every dollar you donate will go to a well-deserved Volleyballer in Barbados. Please leave adequate information for us to be able to thank you unless you wish to remain anonymous. Thank you in advance for your support of the Akeisha M.T Belgrave SAT Scholarship Fund.
