ALL is Well: A fundraiser for the benefit of a young educator battling Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia

Cancer is the abnormal growth of cells which tend to proliferate in an uncontrolled way with a potential to invade and spread to other body parts. This illness can start almost anywhere in the human body; which is made up of trillions of cells. There are over a hundred different types of cancer; some strains are more vicious than others. It has afflicted our mothers, our fathers, our teachers, and even our friends.

A dear friend of ours is currently battling Philadelphia Positive B-Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (B-ALL). She has requested to keep her identity anonymous for the mean time. She is a young educator; she received her Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a Major in Special Education from Silliman University in Dumaguete City. Aside from her passion for teaching children, she dabbles in event styling and also swims and does CrossFit in her spare time.

While the diagnosis is frightening, it also holds some hope. Our friend has engaged this illness with bravery and her unassailable faith in God. As of writing, she is due to be discharged in two weeks’ time after completion of her chemotherapy treatment at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute in Quezon City. Following her discharge, she will undergo a medical regimen which requires the purchase of 180 tablets of Ematinib (100mg) per month. The price of this regimen comes up to P242,555.40 per month for an indefinite period of time. The sheer magnitude of this expense that she now faces has moved us, her friends and family, to pursue all endeavours to help ease the recipient's journey to wellness. Although we are in for a marathon and not a sprint, with our friend's continuous treatment and our fervent prayers, ALL is a disease we can hurdle together for we can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens us.
