Indigenous Australian Aboriginal culture is endangered. Nearly 40 years ago, in one Aboriginal community, over 1,000 traditional song verses and 400 body designs were documented. Today the members of that community are struggling to recall the diversity of their cultural inheritance. They want a book of their songs and body designs in order to pass these on to future generations. All the proceeds from the publication will go to the community, but it will cost about $42,000 to design and print the book. This campaign is to cover the cost of designing and printing the book, Women’s Ceremony and Art: Yawulyu. This book will be a tool to remember and pass on ceremonial songs and designs. It will also be of interest to the greater public, as a beautiful resource to learn about Aboriginal art, music and culture.
