My name is Christiaan Bruwer and I’m a married 59 year old Christian.

I am the “Bread winner” in our home, support myself, my wife and my 86 year old Mother who also lives in our Home. We live a very day-to-day life affording only the bare necessities.

I have 3 Kids. All married and 7 wonderful grandchildren. I ran a small repair business that just barely covered living cost per month. My wife Yvette and I have never needed medical attention up until this point and do not have a medical aid or assistance. I cannot afford medical aid and now rely on the grace of the government hospitals and Dr’s.

End of 2016 I started battling with mild pain and was treated as “Constipation”. At 4 Week intervals the pain grew but it kept being treated as “Constipation”. I started losing a lot of weight and now suffering from a lot of pain my daughter suggested we go stay with them and try get some more answers and better medical help. I was treated twice thereafter again with “Constipation” . My daughter pleaded they perform a colonoscopy. I underwent a Colonoscopy and Biopsy where they discovered an approximately 10cm Mass

February 2017, I was very unexpectedly diagnosed with Progressive Colon Cancer.

After going for a colonoscopy where they discovered a mass approx.. 10 cm in size a biopsy was done and the results returned: Invasive Adenocarcinoma.(Progressive Colon Cancer). I was scheduled for a CT scan to determine the spread and Stage. The scan went well but I have been told to wait for the scan report for 6 weeks. Upon my next check up to obtain more Morphine as I am on it 24/7 I told the Dr about a pain that had developed in my right side. Upon examination the Dr told me my Liver is enlarged. We had the CT scan with us luckily and the Dr had a look and showed us that my Liver has masses on it.

Being a government patient means sitting and waiting for about 7 or 8 hours amongst 100’s of patients who are all waiting to see 1 of 3 Dr’s consulting.

I have waited 4 weeks for the colonoscopy. 3 weeks for the CT scan and 6 Weeks for my appointment in the oncology ward. I am hoping to have the scan results from the CT scan before the oncology appointment (24th March ) because so far it is just a consultation. I am sure if they have my scan results they will admit me and start some form of treatment.

I am unable to work , myself, my wife, and my elderly Mother are currently staying with my Son in law and daughter and their two small children. I am unable to cover my day-to-day cost on our own home and cannot contribute towards staying with my Son-in-law.

While waiting for medical treatment I am doing what I can to Aid my body’s immune system to fight this disease. I am on many organic foods and taking many daily supplements to compliment my stick diet.

The combined costs are overwhelming . I have always worked hard to be financially independent and would rather go without before being a burden on others.

My Daily costs are approx.. R500 per day. This includes paying for our home so the state doesn’t take it and basic household bills.

-Supplements and Immune strengthening food.

-Transport and fuel to and from hospital which range from 40km-300km one way.

A little goes a long way and will help me more than words could possibly say- Physically and Emotionally !

Thank You
