My name is Delia Walker-Jones and I have been working in Tajikistan at American Space Dushanbe for the last year. I met Ahmad 10 months ago when I first arrived in Tajikistan. I was immediately impressed by his energy and enthusiasm, and I am so proud of everything he has already achieved at the young age of 14. After many challenges and a lot of hard work, he has received a prestigious scholarship to attend an international school in Dushanbe that will provide him with amazing opportunities. However, his scholarship covers only 65% of his tuition, which is why we are launching this campaign. Please read Ahmad's story below.
Hi. My name is Ahmad Yosir Abdulmajid, and I am from Afghanistan. I live in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. I moved here with my family when I was 6 years old.
Since my childhood, I have been involved in community activities. For example, I volunteer at American Space Dushanbe. I was a very active volunteer and I was selected as Volunteer of the Year. Moreover, I conduct different clubs at American Space Dushanbe. For example, I conduct Public Speaking Club, where people learn how to overcome their fear of speaking in public. I also conducted Discussion Club where I talked about different topics with the participants. I also teach individual English students from beginner to pre-intermediate level.
I went to the Afghan School in Dushanbe when I was 7 years old. When I become 14 years old our school was destroyed. So I had no choice to apply for a Tajik school or an international school. A friend of mine told me that there is a scholarship available for me.
I got a scholarship from an international school which is called Quality School International. Quality School International has great teachers and provides American high school diploma. The tuition fee is $21,000. My scholarship covers 65%, or $13,800, but I need $7,600 for other 35%. It is a big challenge for my parents to pay this enormous amount of money, because my father is a shopkeeper and my mother is a beauty salon worker. I appreciate people’s help and I would be so grateful and thankful to people who will give me a hand in my difficulties today, so in the future, I can give a hand to another person in need.
