saving philippine agriculture through innovations

Agriculture plays a significant role in the Philippine economy. Involving about 40 percent of Filipino workers, In 2012, agriculture had a 32% share in the total employment which is roughly around 37 million Filipinos, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). This output comes mainly from agribusiness, which in turn accounts for about 70 percent of the total agricultural output (CIDA-LGSP, 2003).

While the Philippines is abundant in natural resources, Agriculture is dying. This is a sad reality of the country. Our environmental assets remain unavailable to poor groups owing to natural disasters, exclusion, insecure land tenure as agricultural lands are being developed into industrial areas, shopping malls, and subdivisions and most importantly, lack of access to agricultural innovations.

The Philippine agriculture sector is dire need of extreme reforms. We should adopt the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in farming to cut production costs and improve productivity. And also maybe in the future, it would attract more and more young people to go back to agriculture

The use of drones can basically be boiled down to four segments: Crop field scanning and monitoring with compact multi spectral imaging sensors, efficient fertilizer and pests spraying mechanism, and faster dispense of granular seeds such as in rice fields.

Help us reach our goal this September to raise an initial amount of $40,000 pesos to purchase high-grade agricultural drones to be used in subsidized crop spaying and have the team receive certification from Wuhan City, China so we could provide the necessary training for Filipino farmers on the use of this technology. Our goal is to adopt the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) in farming to cut production costs and improve the productivity of Philippine agriculture. Uplifting the agricultural sector of our country will help alleviate poverty as this will lead to inclusive growth, especially because agricultural workers are the poorest in the labor sector.
