Wir alle hoffen, dass die Menschen, die uns lieb und wert sind, nicht an diesem Virus erkranken oder sterben.

Hier auf der Masodini Game Lodge, mitten im südafrikanischen Bush des Greater Kruger National Park, fühlen wir uns – weitab von Menschenmassen - ziemlich sicher.

Aber, nachdem nahezu 100% der Buchungen für die nächsten 3 Monate bereits storniert wurden, ist uns und unseren Mitarbeitern die Lebensgrundlage entzogen worden. Die Reisebranche ist komplett zusammengebrochen, und man kann nicht vorhersagen, wann der Tourismus hier in Südafrika wieder normal laufen wird.

Natürlich haben wir Reserven, aber die reichen nicht ewig.

Da wir keine Gäste mehr haben, haben wir unsere Mitarbeiter nach Hause zu ihren Familien geschickt. Bei voller Bezahlung. Wenn irgendwie möglich, möchten wir Kündigungen vermeiden.

Ja, es gibt hier eine Arbeitslosen-Versicherung, in die auch alle eingezahlt haben. Dort bekommt man (und das meist erst nach vielen Monaten) 38% vom letzten Gehalt ausgezahlt. Das ist für uns keine Alternative. Denn davon kann niemand leben, geschweige denn eine Familie unterhalten.

Yes, there is unemployment insurance here that everyone has paid into. There you get (and usually only after many months) 38% of the last salary. This is not an alternative for us. Because nobody can live on it, let alone maintain a family.
