Afghanistan: A call for urgent help

A total of 3.5 million Afghans have been internally displaced according to the UN report as of 13th July 2021. Since then, the number of internally displaced Afghans has soared as the Taliban have continued to capture further 7-9 provinces.

Hundreds of thousands of Afghans have arrived in Kabul, leaving behind their livelihood in order to escape the rising violence and terrorism of the Taliban.

People are sleeping on the roads and parks. The Afghan government has announced that local mosques can serve as shelters for those arriving in the city.

In the current light of a pandemic, and on a background of a deprived pre-existing health care and sanitization system, there is an imminent threat from the spread of infectious diseases.

Those who are displaced are in need of five urgent necessities which are:

  • clean drinking water
  • food
  • Shelter
  • warm clothing
  • basic hygiene products.

Women and children, in particular, are vulnerable and are in need of sanitary products and basic medical care.

Those in need will be offered help based on their family size, any pre-existing medical conditions in the family, and their social setup (i.e. if they are receiving help from elsewhere).

It is needless to say that it will be a challenge to ensure that all those who deserve the help will be receiving it in a timely manner, however, we will endeavor to have an organized strategy to ensure that the process of distribution is fair and transparent.

There are currently three organizations called the Rashid Khan’s Foundation, Srow Zar Children, and the Afghan Cricket Association through which our funds will be distributed. There will potentially be further local organizations or volunteers who will cooperate with us.

We will request the cooperation of local charity organizations and individual volunteers in helping us coordinate a streamlined distribution process.
