Hello to all!
I am trying to send ski, snowboard and cold weather clothing to the Hindu Koush region of Afghanistan, in an effort to encourage the development of tourist and alternative industries in the mountainous regions of this courageous, yet war-ravaged country.
This idea started with me stubling upon an article in a magazine with beautiful pictures of young Afgans trying to ski with wooden boards for skis and crooked makeshift poles for balance. They had street shoes binded with rope to rickety, glued-together wood scraps on their feet, yet they looked like they were having a total blast!!! So I thought of the expensive snowboard I got for my 13th birthday and the new boots I got a few years later and realized, I cannot let these collect dust for another 15 years while these intrepid learners have to scrap precious firewood to try and enjoy a sport I now take for granted.
And voilà! : I now want to send them my very gently used equipment, along with any other donated winter sport equipment I can garner to the tune of the shipping costs I can generate with your help. I pledge to amass as much equipment as the money you all pledge affords in shipping. If it's a parcel, it's a parcel, if it's a container, it's a container!!!
Please donate generously, as the money raised here will help me determine how much stuff (skis, snowboards, boots, coats, gloves, snow pants, etc.) I can send to the Foundation I found to be in charge of this initiative. I live in Canada where ski stations and boutiques are abundant and I work for a recreational products company that may be able to contribute to this project by donating out-of-season products, if I can generate enough momentum on my own to make this a real and impactful endeavour.
Thank you so much for your support, together, we can light a mountain fire of hope and provide resources desperately needed in a region without many current (legal!) economic perspectives! Sincerely, JC
