Alex Leonard is 27, and was diagnosed in July of 2014 with Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis (PPMS). For those not familiar with PPMS, it is an anti-immune illness that destroys nerve covering, which negatively affects the cerebellum (balance), causes loss of feeling in extremities (toes and fingers), and can lead to a loss in cognitive processing and memory, and bodily control. There is currently no cure or medication to treat PPMS.
Prior to his diagnosis, Alex was a very active individual, involved with sports, employed doing physical work, took part in many social activities, and had ease in his day-to-day life and activity. Due to Alex’s diagnosis and progression, his physical ability has been significantly impacted; which has led to an inability to work, participate in sports, limited his social interactions and has led to a decline in his self-esteem and mental health.
Although there is no medication to improve his condition, Alex’s quality of life and physical health requires regular therapy and alternative health methods. The types of therapy that Alex requires include physiotherapy, electrode acupuncture, low level laser therapy, counselling, massage therapy and daily health supplements. The type of treatment that Alex requires now, and in the future, is not covered and in many cases is very expensive.
We are looking to raise $10,000. The proceeds will go towards Alex's growing medical expenses, in addition to purchasing a scooter so Alex can get around much easier and with minimal distress.
Please help in Advancing Alex. Your contributions are very much appreciated.
