{The Need for ACTION}
The grave misconception exists in the UK that ADHD affects only children. The sad reality is, about 4% of adults in the UK have ADD/ADHD and the majority of cases are undiagnosed.
The danger of late or no diagnosis of ADHD/ADD is more serious than "over-diagnoses". If left untreated, the resulting prevalance in the individuals inability to cope will cause marginalisation and an increase of the following indicators of ill mental health and declined quality of life:
- Poor educational performance
- Unemployment and financial disclusion
- Low self-esteem
- Marital issues / emotional dysfunction
- Instances of suicidal thoughts / self harm
- Mood disorders, anxiety and social misconduct
- Obesity & Addiction
- Criminal and risk-seeking patterns of behaviour

{The Stark Reality}
This means a substantial number of adults sufferers in the UK are left undiagnosed and forced to live the consequences of symptoms and implications of co-morbidities that could be better managed and so far as to say, could have been avoided otherwise.
There are also many adults being wrongly treated for depression or bi-polar disorder and in which case the medications prescribed for these conditions could severely exacerbate symptoms of ADHD/ADD.
At SWISH we believe in changing the status quo and advocating fairer support and healthcare provisions.
The vision is that by increasing awareness, educating and developing existing research/understanding, adult sufferers living in South Wales will have adequate access to diagnosis and treatment.

In order to roll out phase 1 of our Adult ADHD Awareness Campaign we need to need to raise funds for the production of leaflets and posters, to be distributed in doctors surgeries and community centres across South Wales.
