MY AHA MOMENT I’m reaching out to you because I ve finally decided to start a GoGetFunding to be able to give free organic gardening lessons to 200 both able and special needs (Autistic children) this 2018.

WHO ARE WE DOING THIS FOR??We are doing this for kids from the ages of 4yrs to about 17 years. Since 2013, my reliable team of 2 and I have being giving free outdoor organic gardening lessons to children who have never planted anything before! This gives the children a healthy hobby, environmental awareness and a more open and adventurous attitude towards eating vegetables and avoiding food waste.

WHAT DO WE WANT TO GIVE THE KIDS?

AN UNFORGETTABLE OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE! These outdoor garden lessons have taken place in schools and events such as the Ghana Garden and flower show (since 2014), Anyaa Experimental Community School, etc. We have 2 ways of sharing this wonderful experience.

What we do is to encourage and assist children to plant vegetables like lettuce and tomatoes, take them home and call us for tips whenever they need help to keep the motivation up and the plants alive.

This is how the one day lesson runs.

We also have 4 lessons in a month for schools, communities –so we set up a normal garden or a container gardening depending on land availability where we visit schools,comunities once a week for progress check-up, growth, pests check, team work responsibility skills at work etc.

WE WANT TO REACH MORE KIDS! This year in order to share the magic of gardening with more children -our dream is to reach 200 able and special needs children with practical and fun outdoor gardening experience by end of 2018, which would translate to 50 children every quarter, and 17 children every month.

In view of this we have enlisted on an as and when basis, 5 young people who are great with children and whose dream job is to help build positive, warm and confident children. It would cost us $7,000 to spread these lessons to cover 200 children throughout the year.

REALLY, HOW HELPFUL IS THIS TO THE KIDS??

1. Gives kids a healthy outdoor hobby-away from excessive TV and social media

2. Teaches kids the impact of their actions and inactions or decisions eg.When I fail to water my plant it dies, But when I take care of it -well it buds, flowers, blooms and fruits!!

3. Exposes kids to the power of teamwork-support system and a practical opportunity at leadership

4. Improves kids’ attitude towards healthy (boring) foods and encourages kids to eat more greens- because if they grew them with their very own hands-they are more likely to eat them

5. Help kids to lessen/stop food wastage-How easily would you throw away food (lettuce, radish etc.) that took you 3weeks/1 month /3months (Tomatoes, Peppers,) 8 months (Passion fruits etc.) to grow?

6. Brings kids closer to Mother Nature to observe, understand, love and care for the environment.

WHAT YOUR DONATION OF ANY AMOUNT WOULD DO

We would need $7,000 for 12 months in 2018 (That’s roughly $35 per child/ for a month’s lesson) Best part of this is that Kids get to take home seeds, planters and child safe hand tools home to continue the magical experience with their families.

An amount of $7,000 would take 17 children through practical gardening lessons in a month, translating into 200 kids by the end of 2018.

That would be great achievement we all made possible.

EVERY DONATION GOES A LONG WAY Your donation of any amount will help transport volunteers to the various locations, purchase garden inputs e.g. organic fertilizers, tools, seeds, planters, watering cans etc., give allowance to volunteers during these sessions.
