ADHD Awareness Workshop(s) + 12 Day Bicycle Tour in Sri Lanka

Our14-year-old son Haruki and I are living with ADHD. We are circumnavigating Sri Lanka (1190+KM/16-days) on our bicycles in this December to raise awareness and raise funds for NPO/NGO focusing on ADHD. Donate to make a life-changing impact.

ADHD is a neurobiological disorder that affects millions of people across their lifespan. While an estimated 9.8% of children aged 3–17 and 6.8% of adults have ADHD, there are still a lot of myths leading to confusion and doubt. ADHD is highly manageable with proper diagnosis and treatment. By sharing information and raising awareness, a difference can be made. While a handful of NGOs and NPOs are admirably working with children with ADHD, very little is done to raise much-needed awareness among parents of children with ADHD and primary school teachers. To that end, my son and I are setting out to hold interactive workshops during our tour with a panel of specialists who are currently working with children diagnosed with ADHD and share our experiences of living with ADHD and its treatments, giving teachers, parents, their children, and families reliable and practical information that will resonate and hopefully change perceptions of ADHD.

Funds you donate + $ for $ match (up to US$24,000) from me goes to efforts of coordination of workshops, materials, logistics and accommodation for experts, parents, and teachers. Excess funds will be donated to an NGO in Sri Lanka that works with ADHD kids.

In last two decades, I’ve organized fund raising events both in Canada and in Japan and raised over $250,000. I’ve also built a fully furnished classroom for 30+ children who did not have sheltered classroom in rural Sri Lanka with my own money. In 2009 and 2010, I’ve raised $42,000 by organizing two bicycle tours from Tokyo to Sapporo and from Tokyo to Osaka. In addition to that I’ve participated in two multi-day extreme distance fund raising bike rides organized by Around the Pearl and The Knights in White Lycra and donated 10 wheelchair to Around the Pearl with my own money.
