(Journey to ACS National Meeting in Philadelphia): Presentation Research

First and foremost, we would like to introduce ourselves, students from the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science whom are the key members of American Chemical Society – University of Malaya Student Chapter (ACS-UM Student Chapter). The president, Muhammad Zhafran Bin Zakaria , vice president, Assiela Aiman Binti Lukhman and me, the secretary, Nurul Najwani Binti Zailan. The chapter was established from the ACS on the 4th of June 2019 and registered in ROS with the registration number PPM-009-14-30102019 on the 30th of October 2019. Being an internationally endorsed student chapter by the professional association (ACS) is quite an achievement not only to the faculty but also university. Now, chemistry students have a renowned platform to empower themselves and embrace their potential academically as a training towards becoming an outstanding scientist.

The ACS National Meeting is a yearly international event. Our attendance will expose us to interact with other professionals and students from around the world as well as representing the University of Malaya. It is also a beneficial occasion for our team to familiarize ourselves with ACS as well as to indulge in the chemistry landscape. On top of that, the meeting is a valuable platform for us, researchers to connect with chemistry professionals from around the world to discover and share new research and technologies in chemistry. The conference programme is organised in a multidisciplinary manner to allow us to explore issues pertinent to our research interest and networking. We would also like to notify that the chapter president, Muhammad Zhafran Bin Zakaria will be presenting his research studies titled “Molecular Dynamic Studies of Weakly Bounded DonorAcceptor Fluorescent Heterodimer” during the conference.

The ACS Spring 2020 National Meeting and Expo will be held in Philadelphia, USA, on March 22-26, 2020. The chapter has successfully secured a travel grant amounting USD2500 (for 3 students and an advisor) to attend the meeting. It is a great achievement considering the chapter is not even a year old and the selection for the travel grant is very tough as it considers more than hundreds international student chapters. However, we need more funding to cover for the travel and expenses as the said amount is not enough. Hence, I am humbly writing to you to request for a sponsorship to support our chapter to attend the meeting.
