Abandoned no more

I found Ratel abused, abandoned and frightened next to a public road in Pretoria. He had severe mange and was in a horrible condition. After hours of trying, I finally caught him and took him home.

At first we didn’t think he’d survive, but despite all odds he kept fighting. I decided to name him “Ratel” as this means honeybadger in my home language. Honeybadgers are notorious for being tough – thus the Afrikaans idiom: “So taai soos ‘n Ratel” which means, “as tough as a honeybadger”.

By the end of his recovery period I knew that I could never let Ratel go. Now, 4 years later I’m faced with a dilemma. My fiancé and soon to be husband is a British soldier which means that I’ll be emigrating to Scotland by the end of November. Initially I thought I’d be able to afford Ratel’s export costs but unfortunately it has proven to be far more expensive than I anticipated. Which brings me to the heart of this ClicknDonate project.

No animal deserves to be abandoned or left behind, much less one that’s already been through the extreme emotional and physical trauma that is abuse, abandonment and neglect.

Please help me raise enough money to take this incredible, trusting and deserving baby with me.
