UPDATE (Oct 22nd) : We've officially got our bids! As a team, we received our much anticipated bid for Duals and on top of that Krista managed to snatch additional bids for both Hatchet and Big Axe! So far Krista is the only person in New Zealand to have won bids for all three events, and the only female to qualify this year. We have been practicing our butts off and hope to make everyone that has supported us and cheered us on proud and we travel halfway across the world to compete!

Krista has since decided to decline her big axe bid as she has slight concerns about managing all three disciplines while throwing in the competition at five months pregnant but is still extremely proud to have been offered all three!

-------

Our axe throwing team is on a quest to represent New Zealand at this year's World Championships in the United States. The tournament will be held from December 1st-4th, 2022 in Appleton, Wisconsin - which, it turns out, is a longggggg way from Wellington, New Zealand! 13,515 km's to be exact!

We are hoping to raise 8,000 NZD to help us cover flights, accomodation and other tournament expenses - most of which will need to be paid in USD. The flights to the tournament alone will cost us almost $6000. We know this is an ambitious goal, but we are an ambitious duo and are hoping the Axe Gods will be on our side as we set our sights on the biggest axe throwing tournament in the world.

Any and all help is appreciated and we truly mean it when we say that no donation is too small. Every cent of the money raised will get us one step closer on our journey to the World Championships.

A bit about us:
We are Aaron and Krista, a pair of Canucks who happened to move across the planet in 2019 and wound up becoming the best of friends at our local axe throwing venue (Sweet Axe Throwing Co.) And I guess there must be something special in the maple syrup back in Canada because it turns out we are pretty good at this whole axe throwing thing and consistently rank as a couple of the best throwers in the country.

Aaron has been throwing axes for over 10 years after starting off in a frozen backyard in Edmonton, Alberta while Krista got her start in the sport about 5 years ago at a venue up in Whistler, British Columbia. We've got an immense passion for the sport and the community that surrounds it and that love has only grown since moving to New Zealand. We couldn't ask for a better country to call home and are absolutely stoked on the opportunity to show the world how the sport of axe throwing has been growing here in Aotearoa.

Accomplishments:
As a team, "The Beaver Cleavers", we won the Duals event at the ANZAXE Open Axe Throwing tournament where we earned enough circuit points to secure ourselves a bid to the World Championships. We also happen to share the current high score for hatchet in New Zealand and are constantly pushing each other to grow and improve in the sport that we love so much.

Individually, Krista has five Championship wins (now six!) in Wellington, as well as winning the countries first sanctioned tournament for the World Axe Throwing League in Hatchet earlier this year and coming second in Big Axe. She has run venues in both Canada and Wellington, putting her heart into growing the leagues and helping up and coming throwers to improve their game and help raise the bar for axe throwing in New Zealand.

Aaron has won himself three consecutive championships in Wellington and is one of the most beloved members of our axe throwing league. He has also taken home the awards for both "Sweet Spot Sniper" (Most killshots hit during the season) and "Axe Spirit" (voted by fellow league members) numerous times - proving that sometimes nice guys actually finish first!

Other ways we hope to raise funds:
We aren't just relying on this page to get us there, although it would be a massive help to reach our goal. We are also hoping to rent some time at our local venue to host a fundraiser in which we can have a raffle and a silent auction.

In addition to donations of direct funding, we would happily accept donations of goods, services, and vouchers that we could use in our fundraising efforts. If you would like to get in touch about making a donation of this kind then please reach out to either Aaron or myself to organise this!
