Jo-Anne, half Sri-Lankan & English, from London & living in Bergen.
I am also a teacher in training as I have had to put my education on hold when I lost my job last May. Work in small town Bergen is hard to come by, but I should be here for my daughter for at least the next 3 years. Hence the wish to improve my job opportunities by studying further. The alternative is applying for work in the UK and moving away from my daughter or taking her away from her studies.
I started my part time teacher training in August 2016 and my position is held, to be continued if possible in 2018.
My education otherwise is in Media & Design where I specialized in Media Literacy, decoding and analyzing the media. How we communicate news to Children through the use of story telling and design. I had also applied for and have been approved to study English from January 2018. It is of benefit for Norwegians in schools to have an English woman qualified to teach English as well as understanding the need for Media education in schools. The importance of Design in communication and the ability to tell stories in both languages. I think that I would make a fine educator in subjects which can only enhance the lives of children.
I have since losing my job applied for many others, unsuccessfully. I now receive state benefits of around kr 20000 monthly for myself and my daughter but which also run out in 2018.
I need to raise the equivalent monthly capital of kr 20000 to live off for the next 18 months. I have applied for a student loan however if I am approved, this will only cover half of the costs of what we need.
If by your kind donations I was able to complete both studies, I would be a qualified teacher of Media Literacy, Design and English, both American and English Literature and Grammar by May 2019.
I appreciate you taking the time to read my story and will be very grateful for every donation made toward a better life style for myself and my daughter. I do not want to be state dependent without work or education and with your help I hope be able to continue to study and qualify as a teacher to help others on their journey.
