Let’s Help A Small Heart.
The afternoon of October 6, 2020, I took my 8 year old son, Bora for a check-up at a nearby Urgent Care. They had noticed what is called “petechiae”, (small red dots) on his legs, buttocks and tongue. During their check-up, Urgent Care advised us to head over to Medical Park Hospital at izmir.city of Turkey.
We were admitted the doctors ran blood tests immediately. After a few hours of waiting the results came back showing Bora was positive for (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia,a blood cancer). The Medical Park is specialize in children's cancer.
We were flooded with information. Within 36 hours Bora given anesthesia and in for surgery. They took samples of his bone marrow, they did a spinal tap and Bora was given a central venous catheter, (a port that helps carry nutrients and medicine into the body).
After surgery, Bora was sore for 3 days. Hardly eating, not wanting to talk. He was everything we didn't know
him to be. We stood by his side the whole way through. Providing him with all the love and affection he needed. That comes naturally for the us as we're a very close knit family. Within an evening the we had surgery results. Bora has what is called Pre B-Cell ALL Leukemia. There are no signs of cancer in his spine and the port on his chest is healing.
The nurses took him for a CT scan to test for blood on the brain and those results came back negative. His heart is healthy and so are his liver and kidneys. As days passed other issues arose including financial burdens. We were insured but not in the means to cover a cancerous condition. Treatments will last 2-3 years.
The financial advisors at Medical Park are working as hard as they can trying to come up with as many options for us, but we have been told we are in between a rock and a hard place. I am asking anyone who is willing, to help in whatever way you possibly can. Even the smallest donation is helpful and we want to support our wonderful family of three during this extremely difficult time.
