Meet Karlen and her son Kleedrin. A true-life testimony and inspiration.

Karlen, 25 years old, has been diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defect at a young age, gave birth to her gorgeous baby boy on August 28, 2021 at 1:22PM.

When she found out she had an unplanned pregnancy, her relatives and her mother thought she wouldn’t survive for 9 months. She had a rough pregnancy, though and her cardiologist and OB-GYNE was fearful of the complications during and after the pregnancy on her and her baby especially she only not has a heart disease but she’s also asthmatic.

The development of her baby and her condition was closely monitored by her doctors. Luckily, the baby developed normally despite of Karlen’s underlying illness. She received no financial support from the man who got her pregnant as he was a narcissist. Karlen left him because she would receive abusive, toxic messages. She chose not to be affected by them and focused on taking good care of herself for the baby on her womb.

On the 37^th week, Karlen went for her routine ultrasound and the doctor found out that the baby’s growth inside was restricted and his estimated weight was only 2.3-2.4 kilograms so, she was schedule for an induced labor in the following week. She was confined in the afternoon of August 25^th. The doctors in the delivery room did their best to help her dilate until the 27^th because her OB-GYNE wants her to have a normal delivery as this option was safer. However, they failed with all their attempts, so, she was scheduled for a CS procedure the next day.

With God’s grace, Karlen and her baby surpassed the surgery -- both alive. A month later Kleedrin (Karlen’s son) came out to be healthy as shown on his new born screening, and hearing test. For his initial 2D Echo, there was no abnormalities seen but he’s still under observation until his 4^th month. It was truly considered a miracle!

Due to this risky pregnancy journey of Karlen, her family and her savings were all used up and they’re in debt.

Karlen went back to work as a freelancer 2 weeks after giving birth to support her and her baby’s needs. Due to the pandemic, her income was less than before which makes her anxious for her and her baby’s well-being in the future. She didn’t undergo a heart surgery when she was young because her family’s household income is not enough to save for the procedure.
