A Second Chance – Fundraiser for Richard Penaflor’s Kidney Transplant

I’m Richard Eymard Ray Romero Penaflor, 37 years of age, a father of two beautiful girls aged 6 and 4 years old, Tina and Nana. I have been working for an electric service provider in Cagayan de Oro as a Civil Engineer. I have been happily married to my wonderful wife Zyra for 7 years now.

Like any other young parents, life was just starting to unfold for our little family. Unfortunately, last 2019, I felt a pain in my lower back that kept happening every morning, until it became harder for me to get up. I got it checked and was found to be UTI which is uncommon and alarming to males.

Went to a couple of doctors but they never really diagnosed me correctly as months passed and my creatinine just got higher. Until we finally decided to have it checked at NKTI in Manila. There, I was diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy secondary to chronic kidney disease.

I am currently on dialysis now since May 2022, in hopes to control or mitigate the damages caused by the disease eventually halted. The illness is not treatable and life conditions would only improve and extend through a Kidney Transplant. As we all know, a major organ transplant is a very costly undertaking and a serious feat to accomplish.

That is why I would like to reach out to your kind hearts for any support you could extend to aid me as I try to surmount these challenges for my young and beautiful kids. I have big dreams for my kids, and it is painful just thinking of not being able to see their smiles growing up.

My sister Thalia, our youngest, has been so generous to be my donor. We are currently working up for the transplant and have matched already. We are still waiting for the other tests and schedules as we move forward, slowly but surely, in hopes that we may finally hurdle this together.

I know we have our fair share of ordeals and I hope we could equally be triumphant of whatever it is we are facing right now. If ever, by any chance, you find my cause worthy of any support you could generously extend, I will be forever grateful. My kids and my family will be indebted to your kindness. And with that, I pray that God would bless and protect your family; that any aspirations of yours will be rewarded a thousandfold.
