For as long as I can remember I have been passionate about training horses. Its something I take a great pride in but due to a lack of facilities I have never been able to make it my full time occupation. I have worked with a lot of horses over the years and have firmed up my method of working with them. I now feel that to expand myself further and to be able to take this to the next level and actually start training properly. For this step I have decided that a round pen will be my best option. Though they are not overly expensive and would soon earn their value back it is a bigger outlay than I can just afford. I am hoping that you kind people might be able to give me some help in getting to the point of purchasing a round pen so that I can make the jump from occasional freelance work to full time training. My current task lies with three young horses that need teaching to lead and a mare that is both nervous and pushy that is scared of pressure. This pen would be invaluable in dealing with any of these scenarios. I truly believe that having studied the methods of many famous natural horsemen over the years and spending time watching horses in large groups, that I can provide a training experience for horses that are providing a challenge. I want to break the traditional training mould and give horses and owners the tools to interact with each other in a way that benefits both of them. Creating a clear way to communicate to provide calm, confident and willing horses, and owners that love every moment that they spend with their horses.
I currently work with a lot of large young horses, all of them between 16 and 17 hands, my current lack of facilities means that I have nowhere truly safe to work with them. Its currently either in a stable, barn isle or in a large open field with a lot of other horses. As you can imagine this makes it incredibly difficult to work with them in a safe way and a way that allows them both the space and time that they need to learn effectively.
It is my strong belief that horses should not be forced, but should be taught in a way that enables them to communicate to and with us, and vice versa in a way that they will be able to understand. This in turn will create a method, to train and produce, safe , rounded and confident horses that can go on to anything in life. From a business point of view this is my big step. However also from a personal view this will have a massive impact on me, my enjoyment from life and the welfare of horses local to me.
