My name is Vince Cesar Noquera Cabalona, a victim of Supertyphoon Yolanda — internationally known as Typhoon Haiyan — and a Grade 12 student of Fountain International School Santolan Campus, San Juan City, Metro Manila. I have been studying as a full scholar under the same school since January 2014, two months after my home city of Tacloban was devastated by the supertyphoon. By the graciousness of my previous sponsor, I have never paid for my tuition ever since the beginning of my high school education.
On October 2019, I was given the opportunity to take a free scholarship exam for studying in Musashino University, situated in Tokyo, Japan. A few weeks later, I and one more classmate received the highest scholarship offer. In there, my tuition fee is fully covered, along with the miscellaneous fees for learning the Japanese language. The course that was granted to me is called the Global Business Studies course.
Unfortunately, the biggest obstacle lies in the living expenses; the cost of board and lodging is not under the scope of the university's scholarship. According to the university, the average cost of living in Tokyo, Japan for a student per month is at least 100 000 JPY, or roughly 50 000 PHP. International university students in Japan employ themselves as part-time workers to alleviate the expenses. Taking that into consideration, I plan to employ myself as a part-time worker halfway through my second year of college, after attaining a certain proficiency in the Japanese language.
That is why I am setting up this fundraiser to cover my living expenses in my first year of stay in order to minimize the expenses of my parents. I would formally like to request you to help me reach my goal by the mid of April. The reason as to why I specified the first year is because settling for the first time would be difficult for an international student, according to the admissions office.
Upon graduating from the university, I will have acquired the skills of Japanese-styled business pioneering and global interaction. Moreover, I will have gained fluency in the Japanese language after four years, which I believe to be very important in broadening the scope of whatever purpose in mind to the Japanese people, or at least in yielding successful communication with a Japanese native by overcoming language barriers, for example: being an interpreter. Additionally, it is my ambition to gain fluency in the languages, primarily the Asian ones, as it has been my dream to be adept in such in order to communicate successfully to a much more diverse audience out of the Philippines.
Rest assured, I shall focus on my studies as I have since the beginning of my high school. It is through my diligence and discipline that I will complete my high school studies by May 2020 with flying colors, and that I have been given the opportunity of studying abroad as a full scholar once more.
If it were not too much ask as well, it would also be very helpful if you are be able to inform some of your colleagues or acquaintances of my situation, or if you are able to refer me of some of your acquaintances that may lend a helping hand to my education.
With utmost sincerity, I do hope that you look favourably to my fundraising request. If you feel the need to ask me I can be reached through Viber at +639451186490 or through my email at [email protected].
Thank you very much for allotting your attention to my request, and I will be utterly grateful once the fundraising goal is met. Words cannot merely express my gratitude once I am able to pursue my studies in Japan due to receiving your gracious support and many others’ as well.
