A Prosthetic leg for my father

Update posted by Shaun Jonker On Jan 16, 2018

Hi everyone,

Sorry we have been so quiet over the past 2 weeks. We have been spending a lot of time together as a family. Johan has been making a good recovery and we are facing each challenge one day at a time. We have been overwhelmed by the love and support we have received.

My father has started walking with a walker to get exercise for his leg and will slowly start transitioning to crutches. There are requirements my father will need to meet before going for a prosthetic.

Thanks to everyone for the donations it has made things a lot easier for us and a lot less stressful.

Thanking you,
The Jonker Family

My father just came out of another 4 hour surgery due to an infection in his left leg from one of the bullet wounds. Luckily they pick up the infection quickly. Sorry that I am only posting this now my father didn't want anyone from the family to stress. My father was so hoping to leave the hospital on Sunday to be home for Christmas.

On Tuesday the 19 December my Father will go in for his second surgery to finish up the amputation surgery. It was supposed to have happened today but the irons in his body was to low and his sugar was a bit high. The doctors are so far happy with his outcome and confident that the surgery will be carried out tomorrow.

The second surgery was supposed to have taken place this morning but the night shit had FORGOTTEN to attach the second bag of blood to my father last night which means his iron levels are still too low. The have attached the bag this morning and are going to give it some time to see if his iron levels rise and if it is good enough they will still carry out the surgery today.
