DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT

Lushoto District is one of the eleven councils in Tanga Region located in North Eastern Tanzania. The district is situated in the Northern part of Tanga Region within 4° 25' - 4° 55'latitude South of Equator and 38° 10' - 38° 35' East of Greenwich. The district has an area of 2,051 square kilometers which accounts for about 7.3 percent of Tanga region land area.It borders with Korogwe District in thesouth and Mkinga District further east, same district of Kilimanjaro Region in the northwest and the republic of Kenya in the northeast.

This project was initially started since January,2019 as CYDO organized its members to use their own funds to prepare some few tree nurseries for reforestation to planted to distribute tree nursery making equipments to 3 primary schools whereby pupils were given a chance to take care for trees and planted those trees on April,2019 but the trees were very few compared to the magnitude of the problem.

Its now that we came to ask for support from the World community that we can get assistance in planting trees when it reach the Month of October,2019. We have decide to ask for funding to help to facilitate reforestation process in this Ungo village because it is very important to the surrounding villagers as they were able to enjoy a nice environment ,get firewood and got some water for drinking ,commercial and social activities were done effectively.

We are going to plant indigenous trees known as Albizia Gummifera with its family name known as Mimosoideae and it is known as ''Mshai'' in Swahili language. This type of indigenous tree is mostly recommended to be planted within a natural forest as it conserve moisture and support water conservation and it is preferable to be planted even nearby sources of water. This Albizia Gummifera is suitable to be planted in thealtitude of 1500-1600 m with rainfall up to 1040 mm, the conditions that are similar to what is being experienced at Usambara Mountains and in Lushoto at large. Each Kilogram of Albizia Gummifera comprises of 9,000 seeds and produces about 6,750 trees per eachtree nursery. The duration needed to serve for the tree nursery takes about 4-6 months to be ready for planting procedure to start.

ACHIVEMENT OF COMMITMENT TO LOCAL POPULATION

Changamoto Youth Development Organization has contacted with local community leaders as well as the Lushoto District Commissioner to ensure the maximum commitment of communities that surround the intended Ungo village to be planted with both indigenous and exotic trees. All these leaders has promised the maximum support to this important project to their communities. We also trained the community members of Lushoto District on the importance of planting and protecting trees for the betterment of present and future generation.
