A new smile for Ansie

My mom, Ansie, is the most selfless person I know. Ever since my childhood, I remember her always putting other people’s needs above her own. I believe that my mom is a true blessing in many people’s lives, she has an open and generous heart and a big smile that will win anyone over. The only problem with her smile is, that she has been trying to hide it for a long time. The reason for this is the unfortunate state that her teeth are currently in. The dentist had to pull out one of her front teeth on the right side, as well as a few in the back of her mouth. As she is missing several teeth in the back of her mouth, it makes chewing a problem.

She grew up quite poor and managed to marry poor as well, resulting in a lack of proper medical aid and funds towards dental care. Visits to the dentist are only ever for emergencies. Her teeth have always put a damper on her self-confidence, as she was never able to afford braces or replacements for the missing teeth.

In 2001, her husband suddenly didn’t come home one day. Later, she found out that he had decided to leave her for another woman. This also meant that she had to raise three children on a meagre office administrator’s salary. She also had to work three jobs at one stage, just to get by. Her now ex-husband never paid any child support.

The greatest gift that I could ever give my mom, is a new pair of sparking white teeth! She is still working through numerous issues after the divorce and I truly believe that with a new smile, she will be able to start a new life!

I have chosen the career path of a Montessori Pre-School teacher and as much as I would love to, I will not be able to pay for the procedure myself. I have started saving what I can, but it will be many years before we can afford to have the procedure done.
