A new home for a new beginning

A young mother (Veronica Makwena's) young daughter, Chantal was brutally raped and murdered on a farm in a remote district outside of Port Elizabeth in South Africa. Chantal was only 5 years old when it happened in August 2019.

Until now, even though the murderer is known to the community, is yet to be charged. The mother has since lost her poorly-paying casual job and has no income what so ever. She and her son are living in the most inhumane conditions not fit for any person. The room has no door or windows, no electricity, and there is no water on the farm which adds to the hell she endures every day. Our NPO has been providing food and water to ensure she does not starve.

We have been able to secure a piece of land and would love to build her a little house for herself and her family. Her mother has passed away, so she only has a sister who is in the same position - no work and no income.

This new home will help her heal from the horrific loss of her daughter and she will have access to water as well as education for her and her sister's children. She has no furniture and was recently gifted a bed as she was previously sleeping on a piece of sponge on the floor.

We are pleading for funds to help this mother start a new beginning

What we’re raising money for:
- Training for Veronica to enable her to be self-sufficient;
- School clothing for the children
- funds towards building their new house
- We're also hoping to raise funds for a woman shelter due to high rates of gender-based violence
