A mothers wish …

Edel Kennedy is one of those 'heart on her sleeve' type of gals. A feisty Dublin lass, full of energy, enthusiasm and a zest for life. She would talk to anyone, anywhere and would probably talk the hind legs off a donkey! She is also a proud, loyal and devoted mother to three beautiful children, whom she wants to rear in the best possible way, instilling deep values and a 'can do' attitude just like her.

She sets the example in many ways, showing them rather than just telling them in all she does. Helping others is up at the top of her list next to her kids and showing them what a positive confident mindset can achieve. That is why most people who meet this bubbly, bright eyed woman find it hard to believe she is dying.

Edel was told she has Stage 4 irreversible breast, liver and sternum Cancer two years ago and that she would be gone by now. More recently she was advised by the doctors to stop treatment as there is 'no point' and to just enjoy the time she has left - But she wants to continue to fight, to stay alive, to be with her kids for another day. She is determined to continue battling the odds and we are right there along side her.

It's hard though as life has been tough on her, there is a whole book in there about her struggles up to now. But still she keeps strong. Her partner is her carer but obviously that leaves them with a very basic existence. Their old car is now caput and she needs a new one, for both bringing the 3 kids to school as well as going to chemo 4 times a week.

This is why I started this, to help her get a car so she can at least get the treatment she needs. Their home is remote, so finding volunteers to bring her daily to hospital, not to mention the school runs is difficult. Besides all of this, it would be nice for them as a family to simply have a safe, reliable car under them for whatever occasion necessary. I believe they have enough to contend with at the moment without the added stress of this. Hence why this post.

The car was the inspiration although she also has a 'bucket list' she would love to fulfil. This is some of it;

Her front garden designed for her kids.

A specialised wall to ceiling unit in the sitting room for the telly and the kids toys.

A make over to make her feel good again.

A cruise to Italy.

I would love to see her get some of this, as I am sure you would to.

The obvious basic comfort she deserves is to have a decent car that can get her and her kids from a to b, and then who knows ... maybe we can help add some more beautiful memories for her children.

We all know what it is like to be stressed financially. It is very hard to be present and enjoy those vital moments when you are worrying about will the car break down on the way.

Edel and her kids need to breathe. They need time to be present. They need time to really appreciate these moments they have together, right now.

Let's give her and her children this gift. The gift of ease of mind, the gift of a set of wheels and maybe, maybe even a brighter future.
