A Mother’s Love

Please aid us in raising funds for a wonderful mother to help with the medical costs of her 3 year old daughter who is fighting for life in hospital.

My name is Katherine and I am the proud Aunty of a beautiful 3 year old girl named Monique (affectionately known as Niquie) and the sister of her amazing mother, Rennae.

On Easter Saturday 26th March 2016 Monique was staying with her father where she suffered 2nd degree burns to 17.5% of her tiny body caused by boiling hot water.

Her face, hands and legs were all affected with the most damage being done to her chest where she will require skin grafts.

Our little Niquie was looking at spending approximately one week in hospital, surgery for skin grafts and 9-18 months in a pressure suit with ongoing post-hospital care into adulthood. This was already a huge concern and just when we all thought it couldn't get any worse, it did.........

Complications arose and Niquie crashed after only a few days in hospital. She was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit and put on life support where she still lay fighting for life today.

The doctors have given her a 58% chance of survival.

Niquie has been labeled a 'special case'. She has the doctors puzzled as to what is exactly wrong with her. Cords and tubes are hanging from every part of this beautiful little girl's body.

She has suspected Pneumonia, Toxic Shock Syndrome, Acute Respiratory Syndrome, Pleural Effusion and has also been diagnosed with Respiratory Syncytial Virus; 'RSV' is not usually life threatening but with the trauma of her burns it has made her tiny lungs so sick that she is unable to breathe on her own. She is on a specialised ventilator and an Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation machine (ECMO) is circulating her blood through her body.

Monique has the most amazing medical team caring for her around the clock and working tirelessly to ensure her survival. Without them she would not be here.

Her mother Rennae, who is a single parent to Monique and her older sister Yvette, receives only $15 per week financial aid along with constant bullying from the girl's father.

For those of us lucky enough to be called family by Rennae or share her friendship, you would know what an incredible mother and beautiful soul she is. The last thing she needs to worry about now is financial issues.

She has been so incredibly strong and I know that no amount of money is going to undo what has happened but it will be one less thing for Ren to have to worry about while she cares for Monique. These donations will help Rennae with the ongoing expenses to care for little Niquie and for her to use as she see fit (parking at the hospital alone is $28.00 per day!)

Any donation you are able to give will be immeasurably appreciated; it will make the life of Rennae and her beautiful daughters just that little bit easier during this incredibly difficult time.
