We are determined to provide our entire student body with a modern playground that is designed to encourage physical movement through play. Our Kindergarten to Grade 3 school currently has over 7000 square feet of playground space that is occupied with only 4 pieces of equipment from the 1970’s. There is not enough equipment for all of our 150 students to be actively engaged in play during lunch and recess. The average child in Canada spends 42 hours in front of a screen resulting in 1 in 3 being considered obese. A modern playground that is designed to actively engage children would start our kindergarten and primary children on an active path during their time at our school. In addition, our current playground is not wheelchair accessible and there are few pieces of equipment that can be used by special needs children. The playground that we are planning has been designed to be accessible to all children.
So far with the support of our PAC, regional and local businesses, and the great people of our town we have raised $40 000.00. We are continuing with other means of fundraising in addition to this page. Thanks for reading about our campaign and we appreciate all efforts to help us meet our goal.
