A Miracle Named Fatima

Baby Fatima is a Fighter. At no more than 25 weeks she came into this world way ahead of time: She could barely open her eyes, her lungs severely underdeveloped and her tiny body weighed half a kilogram. But her heart was beating like a true warrior and she clearly wanted to live..

Her mother fell critically ill as well. While Baby Fatima was struggling to breathe, her mother Mira was at the same time in the intensive care unit and newly diagnosed with Lupus. Just like her newborn daughter, Mira spent time mechanically ventilated and had to be confined in the hospital. She was allowed to go home after a month.

Currently on her 2nd month in the Hospital, our little warrior is still admitted at the Royal Hospital Muscat's NICU. She still has ventilatory support and is still steadily gaining weight. But at this premature age, she had already undergone abdominal surgery, is in need of ophthalmic injections to save her vision, and has battled against heart conditions and infections that beset extremely premature babies. Fatima has fought what so many adults failed to win over and until now she have prevailed.

But their financial situation is very dire. The Hospital has been kind enough to sustain her treatment despite having very less financial guarantee. However, the reality still exists. Financial responsibilities would still need to be addressed. Unfortunately, neither parents do not have insurance coverage for their daughter. And to make matters worse: Mira was layed off work due to her condition and they also found their elder child to be afflicted by the same autoimmune disease. They could also not afford to send her to school this year.

While we are doing everything we can to help and ask people for help, this cause needs a much bigger platform. Our hope that the world is still full of kindness and compassion is not lost. Every single cent gives our baby a better chance to a long and full life.
